BOSTON (CBS) — Some of the letters are heart wrenching; a single mom who has just enough money for heat, food and shelter; the disabled Navy vet who is also the father of two, and the little girl who says she’s been good and would like something for Christmas.

The letters are all part of the Postal Service’s Operation Santa.
Each year, a flood of letters comes in from moms, dads, grandparents and kids, asking for help during the holidays.
Some want items they know won’t show up under their tree this year without Santa’s help, others want things even Santa can’t bring but maybe the answered letter will bring hope.
