At A South Jersey School, Anti-Bullying Lessons From a Harlem Globetrotter

WILLINGBORO, N.J. (CBS) — Some South Jersey schoolkids got an anti-bullying message today from a star-spangled athlete.

When a Harlem Globetrotter speaks, kids listen.

That was certainly the case with these students at Pope John Paul II Regional School, in Willingboro, NJ.

Today, Globetrotter Chris “Handles” Franklin — a Dauphin County, Pa. native — showed off his ball-handling skills and talked about the ABCs of bullying prevention: action, bravery, and compassion.

He says with headlines in the news about adult bullying on the Miami Dolphins, this is a teachable moment.

“Actually, it’s a great time.  It’s a great springboard because it’s upfront and close and personal in the media,” Franklin tells KYW Newsradio.  “So now we can use that as an advantage to us to take that message and hammer it home.”

Franklin is also promoting the Globetrotters’ area performances this coming March.
